Photobombing

Photobombing; attaching the images from my photo-diary of the last year to public places, for anyone to find and enjoy, critise, laugh at or appreciate. I want to find out what "the world" thinks about my images out of their own context.

Photobombing News

As you can see Photobombing has been dormant for quite some time now. Everything was working great whilst the project was running during the summer of 2007, however the decision was taken to put things on hold in order to re-develop the web side of the project.

During the next two months the new website will come online and Photobombing will be relaunched. This will coincide with a UK Photobombing tour; mass Photobombing of cities and rural locations within a short period of time.

Photobombing version 2 will allow anyone to contribute a Photograph for bombing. I will then print the photograph and bomb it. If you have any images that you would like to contribute email them to bomber@photobombing.com - thanks!

Photobomb-0065; focus on reflections

Brilliant. Fantastic bombing. Liking your description too!

It's all backwards, like it's reflected and that. I cured it's back-to-frontness with a massive dose of 'Mirror'.

The bogs in Lloyds bar Chorlton. Under the mirror. I put it back. It's still there. Check it out.

Bradford Blitz

Hit Bradford today; mainly around the University & College, but also in the National Media Museum.

Please let me know if you've found any of the bombs! Either leave a comment here, or send an email to help@photobombing.com.

Rained Off & Got Mail?

I was planning to release more photos today, either in and around Keighley or elsewhere in West Yorkshire. However the rain has prevented that, so I decided to launch my first spree of PhotoMailBombs.

If you receive any of these photos, it would be so greatly appreciated if you photograph the pictures you receive and send them to flickr using the send photos page. But by no means feel obligated!

Quite separately if you receive them - I hope you like the photographs. Even if you dislike them, any comments are appreciated.

Help & FAQ

I thought it would be useful to have a primary source of all the basic information on Photobombing, explaining how it works, and why.

  • What is photobombing? In a nutshell!

Attaching printed photographs (taken from my photo-diary of May 06 to May 07) to public places, posting them through letter boxes, or even mailing them semi-randomly to strangers.

I try to take a new photograph of each picture that I put in place, so there is a history of where I left it.

Each photo has a photobomb ID number written on the back as well as a link to this website. Anyone who finds a photobomb, can log onto the website and using the ID number written on the back can view the original image in digital format and also any photographs I have taken of the printed version in place (in theory, where you found it)

I'm also trying to encourage anyone who finds or receives a photobomb to photograph it themselves, and then you can upload the photo using this form and it will appear with all the other photos.

  • I have a Photobomb, what shall I do now?

First of all you should search for your photobomb ID. To do this use the "Search for Bombs" option on the menu to the left. Simply enter the ID number and press Find. This should show you at least two photos, the original (that you have printed) and also a photo of the original in place. NB All the photos are actually stored on flickr.com photo sharing

Secondly, take a digital photograph of your printed photo, in a location of your choice and send it to the website using this form.

Thirdly, have some fun with it; have a look at the photobombing map to see all the photobombs in a geographical context, browse the other photobombs, or it would be really appreciated if you leave some feedback or comments.

Finally, decide what to do with the photo. If you want to keep it, do, its yours. If you don't want to keep it however, it would be nice if you could either stick it somewhere else or post it to a friend; anything that is not just discarding it and throwing it away. Any photos taken of these activities can also be uploaded and will add to the project overall.

  • I can't find my photobomb, what shall I do now?

Please contact help@photobombing.com and we will see what we can do!

  • How do you decide who/where gets a photobomb?

Essentially it is a random process. If you have a photobomb, and you don't want it, I'm very sorry - please just ignore it.

  • My bomb is not on the list, whats going on there?

Mistakes happen.... please contact help@photobombing.com with your information and we will rectify it as soon as possible

  • How can I get involved?

There's a few ways this can be done. If you live in an area that has been or will be bombed, then you can keep a check on the photobomb map to see if any bombs appear near by. If they do, you can go and hunt them. If you aren't sure, then email help@photobombing.com to ask.

Secondly, if you'd like to receieve a photo mail bomb - email the same email address with your snail mail address and we'll send one to you!

Haworth Map

If you've landed here after finding a photobomb in Haworth, it might be interesting to look at this map of all the Haworth photobombs from 12th June (yesterday).

It shows my photos of all the bombs from yesterday and where they were taken, superimposed onto a aerial photograph and street map.

Once your photo has been uploaded, you can search for it using "Search for Photobomb" on the left of this website.

The Bombing Index

I've created a page on this website which has a list of all the photobombs that exist. On it you can see each photo's bomb ID number (this is on the label on the back of the photograph) and then the title, location of where it was bombed and a link to view it and any other linked photographs on flickr.

You can access the page at any time on this website, using the "Photobombing Index" link to the left.

Also I'm planning a splurge of bombing in the next few days.

This is my favourite placement for today, I think.

It is actually where the photo was taken.

I returned to this photo after about 20 minutes to find it had gone. But then I saw it on the ground beneath me.

Maybe this isn't going to work.

Blitzkrieg is On

Photobombing has begun! The first few strikes were in my home town of Keighley, West Yorkshire.

I will be updating the flickr group soon with images of the photo bombed locations and more information. If you've found one of the bombs, and you'd like to, leave a comment (just use the link below) or drop me a line to tell me what you thought.

More bombs soon, I think Manchester will be my next target location.

What is Photobombing?

Have you found a photobomb? Or have you just landed here for some other reason. Read on to find out what its all about.

Photobombing; the act of attaching the images from my photo-diary of the last year to public places, for anyone to find and enjoy, be critical of, laugh at or appreciate. I want to find out what "the world" thinks about my images out of their original context of being hung in a gallery.

If you have found one of my images, you can see the original and see my pictures of it in the places I've put them by looking at the flickr group; http://www.flickr.com/photos/photobombing.You might have been snapped whilst taking the picture down!

If you have any comments to make or any of the pictures have made you think something in particular, drop me a line. You can either drop me an email with joseph.lindley@gmail.com or you could leave a comment here or through flickr.

If you have found an image, but you don't want to keep it for whatever reason, please stick it back up either where you found it, or somewhere else. You could even leave a message on the back for the next person who finds it. Alternatively just give it someone you know who might like it. Or if you think it's that bad then do the decent thing, and put it in the bin.

Upload Complete

Thanks for uploading the photo! Your photo will be visible on the photobombing flickr page in a few minutes, and should be displayed when you search for your photobomb ID using the search box to the left.

If you've just clicked on this out of curiosity or ended up here by some other reason - there isn't very much of interest here, I suggest you go somewhere else!
